What’s In Adam’s Bag?

April 2nd, 2007

Scott

Titleist ambassador Adam Scott follow up a third round 7-under 65 with a final round 6-under 66 to finish at 17-under 271, capturing the Shell Houston Open by three strokes. Adam is using the new Pro V1 golf ball and new 907D2 driver (specs below). He first put the 907D2 in his bag at the WGC-Accenture Match Play and it took just three PGA Tour starts to win with it. At the Shell Houston Open, Adam’s driving distance averaged 306.5 yards ranking him 4th in the field for the week. He also hit 79.2% of greens in regulation including 89% GIR in the final round. Check out this article from The Tour Van for more on Adam and the new Titleist 907 drivers.

Some of you might have read in the Tour Blog about some of the adjustments that the Titleist Tour Van guys implemented for Adam less than two weeks ago including tweaks to his fairway loft, a new 585.H hybrid and a new Vokey wedge. Below is a complete listing of the equipment that Adam actually had in his bag for his 12th career win as a professional.

Did Adam play an AP2 2-iron for awhile and is it possible to order one from Titleist?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on October 10, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Adam has put a prototype AP2 2-iron in play on occasion this year. We decided not to manufacture this club on a wide scale for distribution through golf shops, so it will not be possible for you to order one.

What are the lengths of Adam’s driver, fairway, hybrid….and length and lie of his wedges?

How does Adam tip his driver, fairway, and hybrid shafts?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on November 26, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Adam employs the following tip lengths in his driver and fairways:
• Driver: no tip
• 15° fairway: 1/2″ tip
• 18° fairway: 1 1/2″ tip

When is the new hat that Adam is wearing coming out to the public?

antonio wrote on May 16, 2007 at 12:53 pm

Adam used to play a 695CB 2-iron, now he plays a PT 585.H. Why? Is there a reason why Adam always wears white caps? Also, and although it’s not about Titleist clubs, what type of FootJoy shoes does Adam wear?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 16, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Adam’s 2-iron was actually a 690.CH prototype. The PT 585.H that he now uses offers superior playability and control with a preferred trajectory. Adam often wears non-white hats (see below), and typically wears FootJoy Classics.

Are the 695MB irons more difficult to play with than the 695CB irons?

Can you provide Adam’s swingweight for both his irons and his wedges? Thanks for all your great comments and providing the best equipment in golf! You guys rock!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 7, 2007 at 1:33 pm

Irons: D-4, Wedges: D-5.

I am looking at getting the PT 906F2 and am trying to decide between the Aldila and UST shafts. Any suggestions?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 30, 2007 at 11:39 am

We suggest visiting an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner for a complete long game fitting to determine the correct shafts and specs for your long game clubs.

I’ve always thought that most players with higher swing and ball speeds use the Pro V1x because of the lower spin. Adam Scott obviously has a high swing and ball speed, so is it just more of a preference than I thought? Does he prefer higher spin or maybe a higher ball flight?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 4:52 pm

Please see the comments here pertaining to Adam’s use of the Pro V1 v. the Pro V1x.

I have one question about the 695 irons. Why are the 695CB irons 2° stronger than the 695MB irons?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 9, 2007 at 2:43 pm

The 695CB irons are designed for stronger, high ball speed players. The stronger lofts reduce spin and allow for a lower, more penetrating trajectory.

I was wondering what the T stood for in his lob wedge (SM60-T)?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 9, 2007 at 2:36 pm

It started out as a player brand designation for the sole grind, and the “T” is for Tom Pernice, Jr.

Hi Steve. I’m the Director of Golf at Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester, Massachusetts. I saw your interview the other day and said “I need that hat you were wearing.” I called Customer Service to order and was told that it’s Tour issue. I need that hat! It’s awesome. How can I purchase one or can I buy one from you somehow? Customer service said there’s been some calls and hopefully it will go into the Titleist line-up. I need that hat!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 9, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Steve’s hats are custom made for him, and there are currently no plans to bring that style to retail. However, we do offer a bucket hat (Style # BKT7) that is a close representation.

I was curious what the maximum amount you guys can bend the face angle on your drivers? For the guys that like a face 2° or 3° open or closed, are you able to bend them to spec or do you have to have a completely different cast? What’s the FA on Adam’s Driver?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 9, 2007 at 2:13 pm

I really don’t like to bend our drivers over 2°. The face angle on Adam’s driver is standard, we didn’t have to bend it.

Will Titleist be releasing the 906F4 fairway woods to the public? If so, when are we going to see them in the retail sector?

Please see the answer to this question here.

I see Adam is playing the 695MBs. I was wondering what the overall difference is between the 695MBs vs. the 695CBs?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 5, 2007 at 12:51 pm

The main difference between the 695MB and 695CB irons is that the 695MB irons are a forged muscle back design, while the 695CB irons are a forged cavity back design. Please see either of the product pages on Titleist.com for more information.

Now that Adam has switched to the 907D2 with the VS Proto shaft how has his ball flight changed? Does the new shaft give him a higher launch than the V2? Thanks for a wonderful website and for all the inside information.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 5, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Adam’s ball flight hasn’t really changed since switching to the 907D2 driver with the Aldila VS Proto 80-X shaft. He made the shaft switch because he said the VS Proto felt “tighter” than the shaft he was previously using.

Joe wrote on April 3, 2007 at 11:48 pm

It’s really nice to see that you guys show the shafts used in the equipment. Maybe you could add the length as well as flex that the guys are winning with. It wouldn’t hurt to know these guys swing speeds as well if at all possible. Keep up the great work guys!

Is the 907D2 Adam uses the same club that is commercially available? How many Tour players use drivers with 460cc heads?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 4, 2007 at 2:32 am

The 907D2 Adam uses is the same club available for purchase through an Authorized Titleist Golf Shop. A majority of the Titleist equipment players on Tour use one of our three 460cc driver heads: 907D1, 907D2, or 905R.

When did Adam change from the UST Proforce V2 shaft and why did he change?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 4, 2007 at 2:27 am

Adam switched from his 905R driver with the Proforce V2 shaft to the new 907D2 driver with the Aldila VS Proto 80-X shaft at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Adam said the shaft felt “tighter” than the V2, and the loft (9.5°) and shaft combination in Adam’s 907D2 provides him with the ideal launch conditions to maximize his performance off the tee.

How often does Adam switch his putter? How often does Scotty Cameron come out with new putters? For the Tour players? Public?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 4, 2007 at 2:23 am

Adam has been using his Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport Mid-Slant for quite some time. And Scotty is always working on new putter designs at the Studio for both Tour players and market introduction. There is no set timetable, however, for new putter designs to be introduced to the market.

What shaft flexes does Adam use in his irons and wedges?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 4, 2007 at 2:18 am

Adam uses the True Temper Dynamic Gold X-100 shaft in his irons and 49° wedge, and the True Temper Dynamic Gold S-400 shaft in his 55° and 60° wedges.

I find it interesting that the pros always have custom “prototype” shafts and wedges. Even when I look at the photo, the 695MB irons look different than stock - larger heel. Probably dialed to the “tee” to their strengths and preferences.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 3, 2007 at 8:14 pm

The 695MB irons that Adam Scott uses are the exact same irons that are sold through any Authorized Titleist Golf Shop. Adam’s clubs are obviously custom fit to his specs, but you can also have your Titleist clubs custom fit through an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner. Also, the “prototype” shaft from Aldila is the same shaft you can custom order from Titleist, it’s brand name is simply Aldila VS Proto. Hope this helps clarify things.

It appears that Adam Scott has large hands. Does he have to use larger grips or does he use the regular size? Also, what other Titleist staff players use larger grips?

Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 3, 2007 at 9:08 pm

Adam’s grips are only built up with 1 extra wrap. We have a few players who also build up their grips, but not too many!

Hi. What are Adam’s specs in relation to length, loft, and lie over standard Titleist specs? Is there any chance of some real close ups of Adam’s clubs, especialy face wear on irons & wedges? Great site……

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 3, 2007 at 9:07 pm

Adam has a very customized set of 695MB irons with regard to length, loft, and lie. The lengths are all ¼” under standard. His lofts are 1° weak on the 3 through 5 irons, and standard on the 6 through 9 irons. His lie angles are 1° flat on the 3 through 5 irons, ½° flat on the 6 through 8 irons, and standard on the 9 iron. Hope this helps.

Congratulations Adam Scott!

Congrats to Titleist and your Tour team. I am interested in getting the VS Proto in my new 585.H and 970 3-wood. Do you offer the 95g hybrid shaft and the 95g fairway wood shaft as options? Thanks again.
Roy

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 3, 2007 at 1:28 pm

We currently offer the VS Proto 85 Fairway as a custom shaft option for the 906F2 and the VS Proto 80 Hybrid as a custom shaft option for the 585.H.

Our R&D Department is constantly testing shafts for potential introduction into our stock and custom shaft matrixes.

What an awesome site for Titleist! The details of what is in Adam’s bag last week is great! I’m a big Adam Scott fan and a Titleist freak and this blog site takes the cake. I love ScottyCameron.com and now with this site, life in golf can’t get any better. Thanks and keep the information coming.

JB wrote on April 3, 2007 at 8:12 am

Thanks so much for sharing this information. There are a number of web sites that report on the equipment used by winners and they all invariably have inaccuracies. To get the proper details straight from the manufacturer is excellent. I appreciate your efforts on this site to give us more in depth information and a peek inside the ropes.

What’s the difference between the current 906F2 in Titleist’s lineup vs. the proto that Adam’s using, the 906F4? Is the 906F4 going to be released to the general market soon?
Thanks! This blog is the best thing to happen to the web since…..well, TITLEIST.COM!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 3, 2007 at 1:21 pm

The 906F4 prototype that Adam and several other Tour players are testing has a lower CG, an increased face area in the impact zone, a larger profile, and a shallower face than the 906F2.

Titleist develops many prototype products for performance-validation testing on Tour. Some of these products are never released to the consumer market. Please check Titleist.com often for the most up-to-date product information.

Does Adam practice with Pro V1 balls on the range? In general, are Titleist Tour players given balls of their choice to use at the range? If so, what happens to the balls?

Way to go Adam!

Thanks.
